Finding Feminism A Memoir Rachel Overvoll Laura L Bush PhD Books Reviews

  • How delightful that a memoir exploring a seemingly extreme upbringing can so powerfully convey universal struggles of womanhood! By immersing us in an insular world of purity balls, purity rings, and amiably rifle-holding fathers, Overvoll illuminates the larger ways in which our culture impacts each woman's sense of self. Overvoll's voice--vulnerable yet empowered--is intensely relatable. Readers will find comfort, courage, and insight in this story.
  • I just read this whole book in one sitting. The book really touched my heart and I couldn't agree more about how toxic some churches are to young women. I know this book will open people's eyes to the real truth about what is happening at these purity events, etc, and how deeply affected these young women are by these toxic messages from certain churches. Seriously LOVED the book so much. Some parts are hard to read, knowing how much pain and suffering the author has gone through, but to see her come out of it, learn so much, and to finally pass on this knowledge and healing by writing this book is just amazing.
  • Rachel Overvoll has masterfully depicted her life story within an oppressed religious conservatism that is eye opening. She relays her unfortunate and sickening experiences in the Church with grace and acceptance that reek of her immense maturity. Never believing in these archaic and repressed norms, we get to see Rachel's journey to find her real faith....her faith in herself.
  • “A beautifully written, emotionally provocative journey that will leave readers eager to kick the patriarchy’s ass!” – Chelsea Duckham, COO of Denver Startup
  • This story is written as if she is speaking directly to you. I have never finished a book in 24 hours and I could not put this down. Vulnerability truly promotes healing and Rachel displays this in Finding Feminism with such grace. Order more than one because you’ll want to share this story but hold on to your copy.
  • In her debut memoir, Overvoll depicts the challenges of finding self-worth after a lifetime of succumbing to constant self-doubt, abuse, and crippling depression in an intimate tale that is sure to resonate with many. Her inspirational journey shows how finding the courage to change the trajectory of her life, despite her arduous past, has enabled her to find love and acceptance within herself in the hopes that others will do the same. You don't have to be a feminist to find yourself championing for Overvoll.

  • Being a woman, Finding Feminism hit so close to home. It’s beautifully written and tells the powerful story of Rachel taking back her power that had been taken away from the church, men, and her eating disorder. It brought tears to my eyes, not only because of my own personal experiences that were so similar, but because it shows the true strength of this woman. It will leave you feeling empowered and in awe by the strength of all women around you!
  • With grace and strength, Rachel details her strict Christian upbringing and how she ultimately breaks
away from the church to become her truest, most feminist self. Leaving no stone unturned, she walks us
through trauma and difficult memories. This book is a wonder.
